The Sony Xperia 1 IV is available to buy now in the UK and Europe, marking the latest flagship smartphone competitor to hit the market.
This one is a little different from the others, though. As with previous entries in the Xperia 1 range, this is truly an enthusiast’s phone, as evidenced by its heaviness Price of £1,299.
While a 6.5-inch 120Hz OLED display might seem fairly typical, this is the only line of smartphones to feature native 4K resolution. With an aspect ratio of 21:9 and the fact that there’s no display notch interfering with the image (it’s in the front bezel), it’s the dream phone of a cinephile.
Audiophiles are also catered for with a pair of front-firing speakers (those chunky bezels come in handy again) and a high-quality 3.5mm jack. That last spec is something you see more often in budget phones.
Photographers will be particularly enamored with the Sony Xperia 1 IV, with its no-frills triple-12MP sensors, advanced autofocus and physical shutter release. Sony has introduced something new, meanwhile, in the form of a true optical zoom that can seamlessly switch from 3.5x to 5.2x, and every step in between.
The phone’s design isn’t much different from the Xperia 1 III (or the Xperia 1 II before it), with a characteristic blocky, flat-edged look. It weighs only 185g which is quite light for such a flagship phone.
We mentioned that the Sony Xperia 1 IV is now available in the UK and Europe, but our US readers will have to wait until September 1st for the Xperia 1 IV to make its appearance.
