Eight tips to improve your urban lifestyle

Urban lifestyle photography has seen a surge in popularity over the past 10 years, especially with the rise of Instagram. Here, COOPH gives eight tips for improving your urban lifestyle photos.

One of my favorite genres to browse on Instagram is street photography, especially urban style portraits. I have always felt at home in the city and with a plethora of vibrant and varied sets and props available to everyone, this is a great playground for photographers.

In this video, COOPH offers eight tips for massaging your creative mind for those who want to create urban lifestyle images. For me, I have always seen that one of the greatest attractions of cities is the range of light on offer. You can shoot in harsh light for those incredible high contrast black and white images made famous by street photographers over the past hundred years. Then when the sun goes down, you can start using the artificial lights again wherever you look, like the neon signs suggested in the video. In fact, combining two of the tips in this video – windows and neon lights – can create some special results, but will require a fair amount of trial and error. That said, few images play more in the hands of cinematic color grading than these.
