Dunfermline photographer Thomas wins photography award

A DUNFERMLINE photographer was named best aerial specialist at a national awards ceremony last month.

Thomas Haywood, 51, who recently moved to Dunfermline from Edinburgh, has won Aerial Photographer of the Year at the Corporate LiveWire Scotland Prestige Awards 2022.

He told reporters: “I was absolutely amazed. On the one hand, it’s nice to brag, but on the other, I’ve been quite humble, and mostly kept it to myself until ‘now.

“It’s very nice to know that my photography is appreciated because when I started, I didn’t think much about it.

“Sometimes I’m a perfectionist, but I don’t always realize that with my photography – we’re our own harshest critics, aren’t we?”

Thomas said he had forgotten to be nominated for the award and it was only when he was called and told he had won in July that he remembered it .

He received an award and certificate at the ceremony at Edinburgh’s Norton House hotel, attended by some of the biggest names in Scottish business, on October 17.

He continued, “In my 12+ years as a professional photographer, I wanted to challenge myself to reach new heights in the fast-paced, innovative and ever-changing world of drone photography.

“Having been a qualified drone pilot for nine and a half years now, I am passionate about the benefits and opportunities that drone aerial photography offers.”

He started working with drones seven years ago and now spends his time producing footage of multi-million pound properties, sporting adventures and even filming on the Isle of Skye.

Thomas added: “A photographer’s photo collection is like a signature on a page; you can take five photographers to an event and have five different stories.
