It’s a powerful statement and one that perfectly captures my thoughts on bodybuilding photography. If you want to be inspired, you must first do something inspiring: If you want to progress, show progress. As a professional bodybuilder and fitness photographer, I’m constantly documenting every little detail of my life – my workouts, my outdoor adventures, and even my everyday life. Simple iPhone mirror selfies are fine. Just seeing myself getting bigger and stronger in the pictures helps me stay motivated, even if no one else ever sees them.
While it can sometimes be nice, what really makes taking a photograph of yourself so useful is those times when you look at an old photo of yourself and realize how far you’ve come in such a short time. When you compare where you were then with where you are now, it creates a whole new world of motivation! You are physically different but also mentally different after going through grueling workouts and strict diets. By capturing every step of your journey from start to finish, it keeps things fresh in your mind at all times: you see exactly the progress you’re making over time.
You committed to a bodybuilding photoshoot and spent weeks documenting your progress. But as you are about to begin, some thoughts come to mind: Will my pose be correct?
